Frank S. K. Appah Jr. MD PhD is a board certified physician who specializes in adolescent and adult psychiatry. He is the founder of Meroë Psychiatric, a Westport-based private practice that provides psychiatric consultation, psychotherapy, genetic testing and medication management.
Dr. Appah graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2009 earning an MD and a PhD in molecular biology. After medical school, he completed his residency in adult psychiatry with the Yale School of Medicine. During his residency, he served as co-chief resident and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service. After residency, he completed a public psychiatry fellowship with the Yale Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Appah served as the Unit Chief for the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut. During his tenure, he specialized in the care of persons with mood, anxiety, personality, psychotic and/or substance use disorders.
In addition to providing direct clinical care, Dr. Appah is an instructor with the Yale School of Medicine and the Frank H. Netter School of Medicine.
In November of 2016, Dr. Appah was named one of the Top 10 Semifinalists for Men’s Health Magazine Ultimate Guy Search.
In September of 2018, Dr. Appah received St.Vincent’s Medical Center’s St. Vincent De Paul Award as “Physician of the Year.”
