A single dose of psilocybin boosts neuroplasticity and reduces depression symptoms
A recent study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology suggests that psilocybin, the active component in “magic mushrooms”, can induce lasting neuroplastic changes in the brain, which are associated with improvements in symptoms of depression. The research, which found significant increases in a specific EEG measure of neuroplasticity two weeks after a single psilocybin treatment session, heralds a promising avenue for depression treatment, albeit requiring further studies with larger and more diverse sample groups.
